Review: Blood Red Road

I have nothing but praise for the writing, the characters, the plot, every little thing. If you haven't read this book yet, I'm telling you right now to please stop making the same mistake that I made for over a year! Read. This. Book. ASAP. It is exceptional!

ARC Review: The Selection

I was a bit hesitant to read The Selection after... the fact that this book is described as The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games, but... I was pleasantly surprised! I actually really enjoyed this book!

ARC Review: Masque of the Red Death

Debauchery Club. Steampunk. Dystopia. Hot boys. Are you sold yet? I sure as hell was from the moment that I first read the synopsis! And I can say, without a second thought, that this book lived up to and surpassed all of my expectations!

ARC Review: The Last Echo

...I was so sad when I first read the title of this book because I thought that it meant that it was going to be the end of an awesome series, but luckily the title is misleading! I adore this series and everything about it, and The Last Echo was no exception.

Review: Desires of the Dead

I finally decided to pick up Desires of the Dead and am so glad that I did; it was such a fantastic read!... Overall, I loved this sequel! It was very well written and I loved the mystery and suspense in the plot...

Review: Afterlife

The Evernight series was one of the first that I began reading when I got into young adult books about four years ago, so I'm really sad to see it come to an end, but I've really enjoyed reading the series and Afterlife was no different!

Waiting on Wednesday (67)

Hi everyone! Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Go check out Breaking the Spine if you are interested in participating in Waiting on Wednesday!

This week I am waiting on Sever by Lauren DeStefano. The Chemical Garden series has been one of my favourites since I first read an ARC of Wither, so it's no surprise that I'm so freaking excited for this book! I'm really sad as well, because it's the last book in the series, but I can't wait to see how Rhine's story ends. It comes out the day after my birthday, so I'm going to consider this book a late birthday present! Can't wait!

Sever
by Lauren DeStefano
Published by Simon and Schuster
Hardcover: 384 pages
Release: February 12th, 2013
Time is running out for Rhine in this conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Chemical Garden Trilogy.

With the clock ticking until the virus takes its toll, Rhine is desperate for answers. After enduring Vaughn’s worst, Rhine finds an unlikely ally in his brother, an eccentric inventor named Reed. She takes refuge in his dilapidated house, though the people she left behind refuse to stay in the past. While Gabriel haunts Rhine’s memories, Cecily is determined to be at Rhine’s side, even if Linden’s feelings are still caught between them.

Meanwhile, Rowan’s growing involvement in an underground resistance compels Rhine to reach him before he does something that cannot be undone. But what she discovers along the way has alarming implications for her future—and about the past her parents never had the chance to explain.

In this breathtaking conclusion to Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden trilogy, everything Rhine knows to be true will be irrevocably shattered.

Cover Trends (12): Back View/From Behind

Hi everyone! Cover Trends is pretty self-explanitory; each week I'll spotlight a trend that I've noticed appearing on quite a few book covers, I'll tell you my thoughts on the trend, and then post examples of the trend! This weeks trend is "from behind"!

So, I don't know about you guys, but for the past year or so I have seen a million covers popping up that show a "from behind" view of the cover models! This definitely seems to be a really popular trend on book covers at the moment, and from what I've seen, I like it! There are some cover trends that I'm obsessed with, namely the gorgeous, billowing dress trend, and I can't say that this is one that I absolutely adore, but it's definitely not bad! In some of my previous Cover Trends posts, I've mentioned that I don't like it when a cover shows too many details of the cover model's face (presuming that the cover model is posing as a character from the book), because I find that, as much as I don't want it to, it has the potential to impact the way that I imagine a character to look as I read. What I really like about the "from behind" trend is that it gives you a glimpse of a character, yet seing as you don't (often) see a face, you're able to imagine what a character looks like without having any preexisting images in your head.

This is definitely a trend that I'd like to see stick around for a while longer. Apart from what I explained above, I'm not quite sure what exactly it is that I like about this trend, all I know is that there is something about it that appeals to me!

How do you feel about this "from behind" trend? Tell me in the comments! Also, remember to leave me some suggestions for future Cover Trends posts!

Teaser Tuesday (44)

Teaser Tuesday is weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can join in, all you have to do is the following:

- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title and author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My teaser this week is from The Blessed by Tonya Hurley! I just started this one, so I can't really tell you what I think of it so far. I've heard some mixed reviews, but I hope I like it! I also really like the cover; it's kind of creepy, but awesome!

The Blessed
by Tonya Hurley

"Why you would go to such lengths, I'll never understand," Martha said, trying to fix Agnes's bandage.
"No, you never will," Agnes said. She pulled her arm away. "I'm not afraid for my future. Not afraid to follow my heart."

I hope you enjoyed my teaser! Leave me a link to your teaser in the comments!

Happy reading,

Rewind Mini-Review: Chosen

Hi everyone! Today I've got another Rewind Mini-Review! Rewind Mini-Reviews are pretty much short reviews that I write about books that I've read in the past! These reviews are done from what I remember about the book, so they aren't the most detailed, but they give me a chance to share my opinion on these books even long after I've read the final page! Today's featured book for Rewind Mini-Reviews is Chosen by Kristin and P.C. Cast!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chosen
by Kristin and P.C. Cast
Released: March 4th, 2008
Bloodlust and dark forces are at work at the House of Night…

Fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird’s adventures at the school are about to take a mysterious turn. Those who appear to be her friends are turning out to be enemies. And oddly enough, sworn enemies are also turning into friends. So begins the gripping third installment of this “highly addictive series” (Romantic Times), in which Zoey’s mettle will be tested like never before. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey doesn’t have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover about the secretive and sinister power that’s turning dead fledglings into bloodsucking monsters must be kept secret from everyone else at the House of Night, where trust has become a rare commodity.

Speaking of rare: Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected position of having three boyfriends. Mix in more than a little forbidden desire to the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster of massive proportions. Then, vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. It looks like the People of Faith, and Zoey’s horrid step-loser in particular, are tired of living side-by-side with vampyres. But, as Zoey and her friends find out, things are not always what they seem…

Like many of my other Rewind Mini-Reviews, this is a book that I read quite a few years ago. I actually read this one before I had even read Twilight and before I was really into books, but even then, as a "non-reader" you could say, I freaking loved it!

Chosen is the third book in the House of Night series, but it is actually the first one that I read (my friend lent it to me, so I wasn't even aware of this fact until later), and is still my favourite in the series! I loved the characters and the romance was, simply put, hot. My favourite love interest out of the whole series, Loren Blake, had quite a main role in this book, which I loved (I know a ot of people don't like him and think he's a creep, but I can't help it, I loved him!). Unfortunately, he ends up being a complete ass, but his sexiness definitely had a large impact on how much I loved this book!

I can't remember very much about the plot of this book, but from what I can remember, it was great! I don't think that I ever grew bored and apparently it hooked me on the series, because I immediately went put and purchased the others! Even after a few years, I am still into the series, although I will admit that the series consists of a few more books than I would prefer (the next one is #10?), so it is dragging out a little.

Overall, I really enjoyed Chosen and it's definitely my favourite book out of the whole House of Night series!

I hope that you enjoyed this Rewind Mini-Review! Have you read Chosen? What did you think? Let me know in the comments!

My Thoughts On... Dystopia

Hi everyone! Welcome to my weekly blog feature My Thoughts On...! So each week, I'll have a different bookish topic and I'll tell you my thoughts on it, as well as share some examples. I've been wanting to do a feature like this for a while, so now that I'm doing it I can finally share some of my opinions with you guys!

For today's My Thoughts On... I've chosen the topic of

Dystopia!

Oh, dystopia! I can tell you right now that this is going to be a very positive My Thoughts On... post because I freaking love dystopia! The Hunger Games was the book that completely got me out of my vampire phase and made me fall in love with dystopia. I think that what I really like about dystopia is that it really appeals to all ages and genders! I also really love that dystopian books are often more serious and contain more mature content. As much as I enjoy fun, lighthearted books, it's nice to sometimes read books that are a bit more complex and have a bit more depth. I will mention that not all of the dystopia books I've read are like that (serious, mature, etc.), which is a bit unfortunate, but the majority of them have been, and I love it. I also think that it's great that dystopian novels often contain similar themes and similar struggles, yet they can be so different at the same time. With all of the different takes on dystopia, the genre never gets boring, but at the same time I still get those characteristics that I love and have come to associate with dystopia! All of this is what makes dystopia my favourite genre at the moment!

I'm sure I don't need to, that you all know many dystopia novels, but here are a few examples! Below are some of my favourites!

Now that you know my thoughts on dystopia, what are your thoughts? Do you love it as much as I do or is it not really your thing? Let me know in the comments!
